Shutterbugs is an annual, photography competition for Sri Lankan University students by Fortude. The competition is designed to shine a spotlight on up-and-coming, undiscovered photography talent. Your submissions will be judged by professional photographers, who will also provide feedback to the top three photographs in each category.

Who may enter

The competition is open to all undergraduates from local and foreign universities* and educational institutes (*foreign-affiliated Sri Lankan-based universities)

Categories for entry

This year’s theme will be ‘Positive Sri Lanka’ and the competition will be featured across the following categories
    • People
    • Places
    • Nature
The photos will need to feature these three categories across Sri Lanka. This year we have partnered ‘Positive Sri Lanka’ to ensure that Shutterbugs propel a greater cause – to encourage and help Sri Lanka recover and get back on its feet post the Easter Sunday attacks. The Positive Sri Lanka movement is about encouraging Sri Lankans to gather momentum to fuel domestic spending – to buy local, support local and live positively. Number of Entries

A participant can send up to a maximum of six photographs per category

File Details

  • File size should not exceed 5 MB
  • Must be in .jpeg or .jpg formats
  • The height and width of the photographs should be either 10×15 inches or 8×12 inches with the minimum resolution of 220 dpi
  • Borders and watermarks are not acceptable
  • If requested, the applicant should be able to share proof for the entry (Raw Image/Authenticity verification)

Submitting the entries

  • All entries should be emailed to shutterbugs.ftd@gmail.com on or before September 22, 2019 (2359h)
  • Email subject should contain:Category_Candidate’s Full Name (E.g:- Nature_JohnWest)
  • The email body should contain:
    1. Title for the photograph*:

    3. Contact Number*:
    4. University Name*:
    5. University ID/registration number *
*All fields marked are mandatory
    •  All files should be named in the following format: Candidate’s Full Name_Category_Entry_Number (E.g:- JohnWest_Nature_1)
    • If a caption is provided, the caption must be complete and accurate, and sufficient to convey the circumstances in which the photograph was taken•
    • Disguising or misrepresenting the origin of your content can disqualify your entry
 
  • Most Popular Photograph Contest

Selected entries for each category will be uploaded on Fortude’s Facebook page and will be open for voting
  • The photograph obtaining the highest number of “Likes” (reactions) will win the prize for the most popular photograph. There can only be one winner for the most popular category
  • The award will be given irrespective of the category submitted

Prizes & Judging

  • Prizes will be awarded to the 3 best photographs which will be judged across the board
  • The most popular category will only have one winner
  • Recognized industry professionals will judge the entries, and their decision will be final

  • If the photograph contains any material or elements that are not owned by the entrant and/or which are subject to the rights of third parties, and/or if any persons appear in the photograph, the entrant is responsible for obtaining, prior to submission of the photograph, any and all releases and consents necessary to permit the exhibition and use of the photograph in the manner set forth in these Official Rules without additional compensation. If any person appearing in any photograph is under the age of majority in their state/province/territory of residence, the signature of a parent or legal guardian is required on each release

  • The photograph must not, in the sole and unfettered discretion of the sponsor, contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content

License

By entering the contest, all entrants grant an irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide non-exclusive license to authorized parties, to reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works of the entries (along with a name credit) in connection with the contest and promotion of the contest, in any media now or hereafter known, including, but not limited to: Display at a potential exhibition of winners

Other conditions

  • Photographs must have been taken within two (2) years before the date of entry and may not previously have won an award in any photography contest
  • By entering the contest, an entrant represents, acknowledges, and warrants that the submitted photograph is an original work created solely by the entrant
  • By entering the competition, an entrant provides consent for Fortude and Positive Sri Lanka to use the images on their social channels, advertising campaigns and collateral
